چکیده

INTRODUCTION To evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of Curcuma longa (Turmeric) in experimentally induced acute inflammation in albino rats. Methodology: Albino rats (200-250gms) of either sex were randomly selected, divided into 3 groups (n=6): Controlvehicle 1ml; StandardIndomethacin, 100mg/kg; Test group-Fresh Turmeric powder 300mg/kg. All drugs were suspended in gum acacia and were given orally 1 hour prior to induction of inflammation by phlogistic agent. Carrageenan inducedpaw edema model was employed to screen the activity. Results: The Percent Inhibition of paw edema induced by carrageenan by Indomethacin and Turmeric are 62.31% and 54.78% respectively. Therefore, freshly prepared Turmeric powder showed 88% antiinflammatory activity as that of standard Indomethacin. Results obtained are statistically significant (p <0.05).

Comparison of Anti-inflammatory Activities of Six Curcuma Rhizomes: A Possible Curcuminoid-independent Pathway Mediated by Curcuma phaeocaulis Extract

We aimed to compare the anti-inflammatory activities of six species of Curcuma drugs using adjuvant arthritis model mice. When orally administered 1 day before the injection of adjuvant, the methanol extract of Curcuma phaeocaulis significantly inhibited paw swelling and the serum haptoglobin concentration in adjuvant arthritis mice. Also when orally administered 1 day after the injection of ad...
